RECOGNITION

How do you know - anything?

Ancestors linger in darkness, held by the attentions of the living; a monk prepares to answer the eternal question; an accident victim loses his memory, another loses something less tangible; one artist dreams of snow, another of the sea – but what do their artefacts dream of? The last performing tiger in the world meets the mob... and then there are the crocodiles...

In these shape-shifting stories murderers, sleuths, monks and marketing wonderboys all battle with their unique visions of the world – but who wins, and how will they recognise victory when it comes?

Christine Colette, author of 'The Newer Eve' and co-editor of 'Modern Britain Since 1979' and the 'European Women's History Reader' arrived at La Grande Galerie on 19th May to sign her latest book 'Recognition', a compilation of intriguing short stories.

Many people came to chat to the author and to purchase signed copies of her new book.  They also had the pleasure of enjoying a glass of Kir to celebrate the publication.

Christine is also a co-founder of a writers group which meets once a month on a Friday morning at La Grande Galerie, Civray in the heart of the Poitou-Charentes.  The writers group has both English and French members and would be delighted to welcome anyone who would like to join them.  The group discuss writing techniques and style, hints and tips and each others latest written contributions.
